Saks Global, the world’s largest multi-brand luxury retailer, has announced a significant leadership transition as Richard Baker, Executive Chairman of Saks Global, formally assumes the role of Chief Executive Officer. Baker will continue to serve as Executive Chairman while overseeing the company’s global luxury retail operations, reinforcing a unified leadership structure during a pivotal moment for the brand.

The move follows a mutual agreement between Saks Global and Marc Metrick, who is stepping down from his position as CEO to pursue new opportunities. The transition marks the close of a nearly three-decade chapter for Metrick, whose tenure helped shape Saks into a modern luxury powerhouse during one of the most transformative eras in retail.

Under Baker’s leadership, Saks Global will continue advancing its long-term transformation strategy, with a focus on delivering exceptional product curation, elevated in-store and digital experiences, and highly personalized service, key pillars as consumer expectations in luxury retail continue to evolve.

“I look forward to continuing to work with our highly experienced management team, valued partners, and stakeholders to secure a strong and stable future for our company,” Baker said. “With deep industry expertise and well-established relationships across the luxury sector, we are well positioned to capitalize on the opportunities ahead.”

Marc Metrick’s legacy at Saks is deeply woven into the brand’s modern identity. Since joining the company in 1995, he held leadership roles across merchandising, marketing, and strategy, eventually taking the helm of Saks Fifth Avenue in 2015. During his tenure, Metrick played a key role in driving innovation, strengthening the brand’s market position, and building Saks.com into a leading luxury ecommerce destination.

Reflecting on his time at the company, Metrick expressed pride in the team and the transformation achieved. “From building a world-class organization to navigating one of the most dynamic periods in retail history, I am incredibly grateful to my colleagues and partners for their collaboration and support,” he said.

Baker praised Metrick’s impact, noting that his leadership helped solidify Saks’ enduring position within the luxury market. As Saks Global looks ahead, the leadership transition signals continuity, stability, and a renewed focus on shaping the future of luxury retail, anchored by heritage, innovation, and elevated customer experience.
