Prada has mastered the principles of luxury since 1913. High-quality craftsmanship, prestige, and innovation has long defined the brand. However, the principles of luxury are no longer confined to fashion. They are now part of a mission designed to return humans to the Moon.

In one of the most unexpected collaborations in modern luxury, Prada has partnered with Axiom Space to help create NASA’s next-generation lunar spacesuit for the Artemis III mission. Unveiled during the International Astronautical Congress in Milan, the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) represents a meeting of two worlds that rarely intersect: high fashion and space exploration.

The mission itself is historically iconic. Artemis III is expected to deliver the first crewed lunar landing since Apollo 17 concluded in 1972, while also marking the first time a woman and a person of color will walk on the Moon as part of a NASA lunar mission.

For Prada, the project extends far beyond aesthetics. Drawing on its expertise in raw materials, manufacturing techniques, and innovative design, the Italian fashion house worked directly alongside Axiom Space engineers to develop components capable of withstanding the harsh realities of space. The recent unveiling of the Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment (LCVG), the high-performance inner layer worn beneath the AxEMU spacesuit, takes the design to the next-level. This layer is closest to the astronaut’s body, where thermal regulation, comfort, and reliability are essential. Axiom and Prada’s goal was to create a suit that protects astronauts while supporting future exploration of the Moon’s south pole, a region never before explored by humans.

The resulting spacesuit reflects the increasingly collaborative future of innovation. According to the project, Prada’s engineers contributed material expertise and advanced manufacturing to help bridge high functionality with performance-driven design. The partnership demonstrates how specialized skills, developed within the luxury industry, can find relevance far beyond traditional consumer products.

Prada’s collaboration with Axiom Space represents a future built through engineering, science, and craftsmanship. The fashion house is now helping shape humanity’s next chapter of exploration, one that reaches far beyond Earth itself.
