Some cars demand attention. Others, like the new Rolls-Royce Project Nightingale, stand out in a quiet and confident way.
As a fully electric grand tourer, Project Nightingale removes the usual engine noise and replaces it with a uniquely quiet open-top experience. What defines Project Nightingale is its silence. The roof is composed of sound-deadening materials like cashmere, fabric, and high-performance composites, all designed to create a near-silent sensation. The vehicle’s shape creates a coupé-like presence, and the fully electric drivetrain generates virtually no mechanical noise. Its acoustics allow for a remarkably tranquil experience, whether the roof is raised or lowered.
The Art of Silence
Project Nightingale masters the romance of driving through its intelligent design. Instead of engine noise, the sound of ocean waves lapsing on a shore, air rustling through trees, the quietude of the countryside, or birdsongs, become the natural surround system. Driving feels less like operating a machine and more like being fully present in the moment.
The car’s body is inspired by classic 1920s glamour and contemporary refinement. Its shape is long and low, with clean lines and smooth surfaces that allow for optimal aerodynamic performance. Constructed using the Rolls-Royce Architecture of Luxury aluminium spaceframe, the automobile maintains a sleek, monolithic form that gives it a strong yet subtle presence.
Inspired by Nature
Project Nightingale’s interior is inspired by nature and serenity. Its color palette mimics the blue skies of the Côte d’Azur, where Henry Royce’s winter estate is located. The seats are finished in soft pastel blues and warm white tones, while dark navy inserts create a bold contrast. Subtle pink trim evokes the French Riviera’s wild flowers. Every material is carefully selected for comfort and ease, and the spaces between the seats are designed to feel spacious, practical, and relaxed. The result is an inviting environment that captures the essence of life outside the car.
Exclusive to Project Nightingale is its Starlight Breeze illumination. Rolls-Royce designers, inspired by the clarity of birdsong they heard during prototype test drives, created an interior light display to match the birds’ sound-wave patterns. Each car features 10,500 individual “stars” that reflect the rhythm of birdsong, paying tribute to the motor car’s name: Le Rossignol, French for “the nightingale.”
For the Few
Project Nightingale is the first of the Coachbuild Collection, which is Rolls-Royce’s exclusive, invitation-only program offering ultra-limited cars to hand-picked buyers. Rather than being mass produced, Project Nightingale is limited to just 100 consumer vehicles worldwide and remains part of a highly tailored set of motorcars reserved for clients with a deep affinity for Rolls-Royce design.
From production to pavement, Project Nightingale stands out with a kind of luxury that feels effortless rather than excessive. Its quiet confidence, pristine quality, and nature-enhancing design sets it apart from the conventional driving experience. Global testing will begin this summer, with deliveries as early as 2028.
