There is something inherently cinematic about rail travel, and Belmond’s new Celia carriage embraces that idea completely. Designed by filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and designer Catherine Martin, the carriage brings a more intimate and expressive experience to one of Britain’s most storied trains.

Originally built in 1932, the restored carriage has been reimagined as an intimate private venue accommodating up to 12 guests. The experience is designed around exclusivity and personalization, with a private chef, dedicated butler and steward, luxury transfers, fine wines, and bespoke onboard experiences tailored to each gathering. Whether arranged as a celebratory dinner, cocktail reception, or elegant private escape, Celia offers complete privacy while immersing guests in scenic terrains.

Dining is a key part of the journey. Celia-exclusive menus allow guests to curate their own brunch, lunch, or dinner, drawing from a selection of dishes that highlight the best of British ingredients. The experience begins with a welcome drink, either a seasonal cocktail or a champagne reception, served in the carriage’s private lounge. From there, each course is paired with carefully selected wines, creating a natural flow between food, drink, and the passing landscapes.

Inside, the carriage reflects Luhrmann and Martin’s signature storytelling ability. The interiors draw inspiration from Shakespeare, the British countryside, and the theatrical glamour associated with Luhrmann’s films. Rich velvet seating, marquetry woodwork, floral motifs, dramatic curtains, and hand-painted decorative elements create an immersive atmosphere without losing the heritage of the original Pullman train design. The carriage features its own lounge, cocktail bar, and dining space, allowing guests to migrate naturally throughout the journey.

Celia also carries a narrative of its own, inspired by a fictional West End actress who was gifted her own carriage after a celebrated performance in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. That story adds a subtle layer of character to the experience.

For Belmond, Celia reflects a focus on heritage, narrative, and detailed intention. It offers a private and personal adventure, while staying connected to the timeless appeal of the journey itself. The Celia Belmond train will launch in early Summer 2026 and will be offering trips to Blenheim Palace, and the historic towns of Oxford, Bath, and Whitstable.
