Prada’s world of fashion extends far beyond clothing, and in Shanghai, the house has created a destination where gastronomy, art, history and cinema converge. Mi Shang Prada Rong Zhai is Prada’s first standalone fine dining space in Asia, located within the historic Rong Zhai residence.
Created in collaboration with acclaimed director Wong Kar Wai, the project establishes a relationship between Milan and Shanghai cultures, combining Prada’s aesthetic with the cultural character of its surroundings. Wong Kar Wai’s concept of Tête-bêche, centered on mirrored and inverted forms, shapes the space and brings together Prada’s elegance with Rong Zhai’s vintage charm.
The interiors continue the dialogue between cultures. Prada’s art collections are displayed alongside Chinese antiques, while the Rising Clouds, Blooming Flower woodblock series, created in collaboration with Duo Yun Xuan Art Center, adds another layer of traditional Shanghai craftsmanship.
The experience is also deeply connected to Rong Zhai’s history. Inspired by the villa’s 2017 renovation, Mi Shang Prada Rong Zhai guides guests through rooms that reflect their original purposes, incorporating curated art, antiques and influences from both Milan and Shanghai. One particularly immersive corridor is inspired by Wong Kar Wai’s In the Mood for Love, with traditional woodblock artworks from the Rising Clouds, Blooming Flowers series lining the space.
At the heart of the destination is its cuisine, which brings Italian and Chinese traditions together. Executive Chef Riccardo la Perna and Pastry Chef Diego Crosara lead the gastronomic experience, where ingredients, flavors and techniques from both culinary cultures intertwine. The restaurant has also been included in the Michelin Guide 2026 dedicated to Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, while receiving Two Forks in the Gambero Rosso Top Italian Restaurants 2026 guide.
The second floor contains both the café and restaurant, offering all-day café service alongside fine dining. Above, the third-floor Apartment celebrates Prada’s heritage with exclusive products and custom services.
With all this, Mi Shang Prada Rong Zhai is designed to be more than a restaurant. Prada describes the destination as a cultural salon, with art exhibitions and events intended to encourage urban cultural dialogue.
The experience has also entered a new chapter with internationally acclaimed mixologist Remy Savage joining as Lead Mixologist. His beverage program introduces 16 signature cocktails inspired by Rong Zhai’s history and evolution, organized across four thematic chapters.
From its cinematic interiors to its cross-cultural cuisine and evolving cultural programming, Mi Shang Prada Rong Zhai presents a distinctly Prada interpretation of contemporary hospitality, one that places Milan and Shanghai under the same roof.
