Many people know Chanel as the luxury fashion company founded by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel over a century ago. The brand is renowned for iconic fashion staples, high-end skincare, quilted handbags, and opulent fragrances. What many have yet to learn, however, is that Chanel’s impact has extended beyond the runway and into the vineyard. In April 2026, St. Supéry Estate Vineyards & Winery, owned by Chanel, purchased Rudd Estate in Napa Valley. For over a decade, Chanel has pursued opportunities around the world to preserve land for winemaking and maximize its potential for generations to come. Chanel purchased St. Supéry in 2015, marking its first winery ownership venture in the United States. Chanel also owns Château Canon, Château Rauzan-Ségla, and Château Berliquet in Bordeaux, along with Domaine de l’Ile at Porquerolles in the Côtes de Provence. These pursuits exhibit Chanel’s commitment to faithful cultivation of timeless luxuries reaching beyond fashion. Alongside iconic apparel, Chanel’s portfolio includes viniculture mastery and wine-making legacy.

With St. Supéry’s stewardship, Rudd Estate will be preserved and developed with the same commitment to craftsmanship and multigenerational thinking that defines both brands. Emma Swain, CEO of St. Supéry, expressed her excitement about the purchase: “Rudd Estate’s eastern Oakville region, an area of Napa Valley I have long admired, represents exactly the kind of place we feel called to nurture.”

A Fruitful Purchase

Founded in 1982, St. Supéry became known for producing exceptional wines from 100% estate-grown grapes from vineyards spanning 1,700 acres. St. Supéry specializes in cabernet sauvignons, red Bordeaux, and is responsible for nearly 10% of Napa Valley’s sauvignon blancs. The winery is Certified Napa Green Winery and Vineyard and a Gold Member of International Wineries for Climate Action.

The Rudd family founded Rudd Estate in 1996 and turned their eastern Oakville grapes into one of Napa Valley’s most successful estate-grown cabernet sauvignons. Leslie and Susan Rudd have spent nearly four decades pursuing the vision to maximize the full potential of their land and leave it better than they found it. Over time, the Rudd family has maintained a steadfast commitment to excellence and heritage through their quality wine production.

St. Supéry’s acquisition of Rudd Estate reflects a commitment to developing land that has the potential to carry on a legacy. St. Supéry is working hand-in-hand with the Rudd Estate team to ensure the property maintains the unique identity it has cultivated over decades.

“Rudd and St. Supéry share a deep commitment to estate wines, craftsmanship, sustainability, and excellence. It’s exciting to see the Rudd family’s legacy continue with a partner who values those things so deeply.” — Darrell Swank, Trustee of the Leslie G. Rudd Estate.

St. Supéry will continue creating wines from the Rudd Estate and offering bottled wines for sale through its wholesale and private consumer channels.
