Some automobiles are engineered to chase lap records. Others are created to become works of art. With the unveiling of the Bugatti Destrier, the marque proves that one extraordinary platform can accomplish both.
As the third one-of-one commission from Bugatti’s Programme Solitaire, the Destrier transforms the track-focused Bolide into a sculptural expression of elegance. Rather than emphasizing aerodynamic components, the project explores what the Bolide’s dramatic proportions would look like when viewed as pure design. The result is a creation Bugatti describes as one intended to be admired for generations and remembered among the brand’s most significant designs.
Its name comes from the powerful horses ridden by medieval knights, a fitting inspiration for a vehicle with such strength. Standing just one meter tall, the Destrier is lower than any Bugatti in history, while larger 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels amplify its striking stance. Without the Bolide’s prominent wings and aerodynamic additions, the bodywork takes center stage, allowing its curves to speak for themselves.
Although the Destrier is a modern creation, its concept draws inspiration from Bugatti’s own heritage. The company points to the legendary Type 57 chassis, which served as the foundation for Le Mans-winning race cars and the celebrated Type 57SC Atlantic. Built around the Bolide’s carbon-fiber monocoque, the Destrier also introduces a fresh take on Bugatti’s signature design language. Its iconic C-line has been reimagined with a subtle break before flowing into a wider horseshoe grille, while a smoothly integrated rear wing adds a refined finish to the car’s silhouette. A low-slung cabin, sculpted waistline, and muscular bodywork give the Destrier a dramatic presence.
The exterior is finished in Sapphire Celeste, a custom blue created exclusively for the car and its owner. Diamond-inspired sparkle gives the paint added depth, while polished aluminum accents and tinted exposed carbon fiber complete the elegant look. Inside, the cabin moves away from the Bolide’s race-inspired design in favor of a more luxurious atmosphere. Warm leather and nubuck are paired with an innovative textile woven with fine copper yarns, creating an interior that feels both modern and handcrafted.
Although the Destrier retains the Bolide’s 1,600 PS quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine, Bugatti intentionally places the spotlight elsewhere. Rather than focusing solely on performance, this one-of-one creation celebrates craftsmanship, timeless design, and the idea that a hypercar can be as much a collectible work of art as it is an engineering achievement.
The Bugatti Destrier will make its public debut during Monterey Car Week, culminating with an appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 16, 2026.
