1924 Hispano-Suiza H6C Nieuport-Astra “Tulipwood” Torpedo Wins Best of Show at Pebble Beach 2025

Penny and Lee Anderson Sr. of Naples, Florida, brought the car to the event, where it stood out from 229 entries from 22 countries and across the U.S. The car is famous for its lightweight, hand-carved mahogany body, made from strips joined by 8,500 rivets.

Concours Chairman Sandra Button said the car has advanced mechanics and a beautiful torpedo shape. It was originally commissioned by André Dubonnet and raced in the Targa Florio and Coppa Florio. Later, pontoon fenders were added, but the Andersons restored it to its original design so the torpedo shape could be fully appreciated.

Lee Anderson, who has collected antique wooden boats for decades, said he was drawn to the car because of the woodwork. Penny Anderson said they didn’t expect to win but were thrilled. This marks the Andersons’ second Best of Show win at Pebble Beach, following their 2022 Duesenberg victory.

The event also raised over $4 million for local charities supporting youth education in Monterey County. Cars participated in the 70-mile Tour d’Elegance before judging, giving everyone a chance to see them on scenic coastal roads. The Hispano-Suiza “Tulipwood” Torpedo impressed judges and visitors alike with its craftsmanship, history, and racing legacy.
