Nestled along the majestic Caribbean Sea, the Rivera Maya is a unique paradise, and Mayakoba is its crown jewel. Meaning “village over the water,” Mayakoba is a lush, tropical, seaside community filled with the absolute finest luxury home developments and five-star resorts — and Banyan Tree Mayakoba is one of the best. Composed of 121 unique and luxurious villas, this rejuvenating sanctuary was specifically designed to transport its guests to a world of relaxation.
Jetset was recently able to test out Banyan Tree Mayakoba’s Spa Sanctuary Pool Villa and found it to be a lavish, tranquil, and well crafted retreat. Every detail was elegant and thoughtful, every design touch made with relaxation in mind. The award-winning Banyan Tree Spa is world renowned for its exceptional treatments and romantic ambiance — its 16 lagoon or jungle-view private treatment pavilions are works of art — and the Spa Sanctuary Pool Villa ingeniously embodies the spa’s spirit, turning every minute of your stay into part of a spa experience.
Upon arrival, you are met by a “Sanctuary Host,” who, alongside professional spa therapists, works with you to devise a bespoke itinerary perfectly catered to your relaxation and wellness goals. Each day then commences with an exquisite “Morning Delight Treatment” (such as a Thai Yoga Massage), followed by a health-conscious catered breakfast in your villa. Then, throughout your day, you are free to indulge in whichever treatments you may desire (such as the patented “Personal Hydro Experience” or “Rainforest Indulgence Treatment”), before the day culminates with a therapeutic “Sanctuary for the Senses” turndown experience. They work hard to keep you in a constant state of pure relaxation.
Aside from the comprehensive spa experience, the resort offers an assortment of activities. There are six restaurants, each offering unique cuisine. The signature restaurant, Saffron, serves authentic Thai food with plenty of ¬ambiance, while there are two separate boat experiences, Ixchel and the Tapas Cruise, for romantic dining on the water. And Banyan Tree Mayakoba is home to the 18-hole, Greg Norman-designed El Camaleón golf course, site of the only PGA Tour event in Latin America, the OHL Classic. In short, this is one resort that certainly deserves your attention.
